Mary Poppins First Publication: 1934 Author: P.L. Travers Story: Eight beloved stories of a magical Nanny, and her attempts to teach the house at Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane. All sorts of things happen including meeting Chimney Sweeps, having tea parties on the ceiling, and all sorts of wonder.
Mary Poppins Play-by: Julie Andrews A beautiful English Nanny, Mary Poppins is ‘practically perfect in every way’. Besides children, it seems that the only people Mary gets along with is her friend Bert the jack of all trades and her just-as-magical Uncle Albert.
Bert (last name unknown) Play-by: Dick Van Dyke (younger) A jack-of-all-trades with a hidden wisdom and wit, this cheery man remains Mary’s closets friend. It is implied that they have known each other for a long time.
Albert Poppins Play-by: Ed Wynn Mary’s only mentioned relative. He suffers ‘laughing attacks’ that cause him to float up to the ceiling. Bert lives with him and looks after him while Mary is away.
Mr. George Banks Play-by: David Tomlinson Head of the Banks family. When Poppin’s first arrives, he is very disgruntled at the ‘hocus pocus’ that his children talk about. But soon, he realizes how distant he is toward his children, and now has been spending more time with them.
Mrs. Winifred Banks Play-by: Glynis Johns Wife of Mr. Banks and mother of their four children. Winifred is a loving mother, but her time has been taken up with the Woman’s Suffragist movement. This requires her to hire a nanny for her children.
Jane Banks Play-by: Karen Dotrice Eldest of the Banks children, she is rather inclined to giggle, and she has great enthusiasm when it comes to anything magical. She is extremely polite for her young age.
Michael Banks Play-by: Matthew Garber Second child and eldest son of the Bank’s family. He is much more suspicious of Mary Poppin’s intentions, and share’s his father’s stubbornness.
John Banks Play-by: roleplayer’s choice One of the twins, and second youngest son. John is extremely small and timid for his age.
Barbara Banks Play-by: roleplayer’s choice John’s twin, she is a lot more exocentric and seems to have the enthusiasm of her sister, Jane, and the stubbornness of her brother Michael.
